The 35mm Univex Mercury Model CC-1500 (ca. 1939) was the top of the line for the Universal Camera Co. at the time and superior to the Mercury II (Model CX) of 1946 due to the poor finish of the Mercury II. However, all Mercurys had the famous and reliable rotary shutter based upon those used in motion picture cameras. This example with Serial Number 100037 is the uncommon CC-1500 model with shutter speeds to 1/1500 second. It is equipped with the Univex Rapid Winder, the 35mm f3.5 Wollensak Tricor Anastigmat lens, the uncommon 75mm f3.5 Ilex Telecor Anastigmat telephoto lens with hood and rare matching finder, and a Univex extinction meter. The Rapid Winder is working well, both lenses are clean, clear and unscratched, but the pie-shaped gray scale in the extinction meter has disintegrated so the meter is unusable. The exterior leather on the body is complete with a sharp and contrasty grain pattern, but the back has two ghosts of the original carrying snaps at the bottom. The satin finish aluminum body is in generally good condition, but does have a number of minute age-related spots in places that are visible when you get very close, and someone has scratched the number “1031” in light 1/8” high digits at the bottom rear. The overall condition of this desirable and uncommon 35mm Univex Mercury Model CC-1500 outfit is E, and there is no reserve.
