Background: These were my initial lens purchases when I entered the hobby last year. Understandably, since I wasn't yet familiar with the fundamentals, my attempt to purchase lenses best suited for my needs.
Since my specific interest is sports photography, these lenses weren't designed to do what I wanted. Needless to say, recognizing that primes were the road best suited to my needs became a very expensive lesson. As a side effect, the lenses have been on ice and in storage for the past 6+ months. Generally, I detest selling stuff, which results in stuff ending up in the closet for perpetuity. However, I made an impulse purchase for a lens for the upcoming season, which put me in the water way over my head...Incidentally, here we are.
Both lenses are fundamentally sound, and the IS function is extremely handy, and adds a significant dimension to the lenses' utility and offers a "jack of all trades" aspect. Ironically, the only matter I can think of that neither lens is great for is "stopping action." However, they're an exceptional fit for anyone seeking a high quality multi purpose lens.
Specifics: Combined, the lenses have been use about a dozen times.
70-300mm IS USM--This is a solid all purpose telephoto zoom. The body has light wear (scuffing), as it was toted around in my camera bag for about six months until I accepted the fact that it wasn't going to get used and exiled it to the closet.
I took a couple shots yesterday and everything is in order. The only matter that may warrant a disclosure is that the manual focus ring felt loose, (very similary to the ring on the 50 f/1.8). I'm pretty confident the observation's subjective and merely a pet peeve since I'm used to my 300 f/4, but I figured I'd mention it nonetheless.
I do not have the box/materials, as at the time I entered the hobby I didn't have the foresight to recognize there was a secondary market for used lenses. However, I will include the hood. (I believe it's a 3rd party manufacturer)
28-135mm IS: I bought an 85mm prime almost immediately after taking up the hobby, so this lens never even made it to my bag. Included with the lens is the box and all original materials. It also has a 72mm UV filter as well as a third party EW78B hood (which is well built). Finally, this lens is only 9 months old, so you should have the luxury of beating on it for a while to break it in.
Lagniappe:
1) If requested, I'll try to dig up some pics taken with the lenses)
2) *NOTE-Shipping says $12 because I had to put something. I'm a true believer in charging exact shipping, and also require insurance. The final fee could be more or less, but since I rarely sell anything, and I won't know how much insurance is needed until after the auction, the exact amount will be provided after the auction. But rest assured, no type of "service" or "packaging" fees will creep in.
3) Payment: I hate Paypal more than Socialism, and consequently do not want to use it, but won't rule it out. If you feel equally strong about using it, I ask that you contact me first to discuss it.
4) Shipment: Due to my work schedule, the lenses will be shipped on either a Monday or Friday. Again, if there's a need/expectation for immediate shipping, I ask that you contact me first to work it out, so that I'm not backed into a corner at the last minute.
5) Anyone with less than 5 feedback must contact me prior to bidding so I can be assured the bid is legitimate.
6) Anything else; feel free to ask any questions that weren't addressed in the description.
-Thanks for looking, John

ADDED 8/25: *NOTE: I cannot find the box and materials for this camera, which also means I do not have the instructions or the warranty card either.
This auction will only include the 28-135mm lens, UV filter and the hood.

In response to various inquests, I'll happily ship the lens Global Express Priority to Kim Jong Il's Palace, or even the moon as long as there's a valid zip code.
