This book explains in simple terms the basics of astronomy. The chapters are as follows:
1. The Earth; latitude and longitude, rotation and revolution of the earth, the seasons, gravitation, the Northern lights, meteors and meteorites.
2. Telescopes; refracting and reflecting telescopes, the spectroscope, radio telescopes, the planetarium.
3. The moon; phases of the moon, tides, solar and lunar eclipses, a trip to the moon
4. The Solar System; each of the planets is described, the minor planets, the rings of Saturn, comets.
5. The Sun; the structure of the Sun, the Suns rotation, sunspots, a solar furnace.
6. The Milky Way; the form of our galaxy, giant stars, white dwarfs, the supernova, star clusters, nebula, dark clouds.
7. Other Galaxies; how many galaxies, the Andromeda galaxy, dimensions of the galaxies, the age of the universe, the expanding universe
8. The Stars around the Year; spring stars, summer stars, autumn stars, winter stars.
The photos in the book are of an odd type; the pages are blue, but the photos on the page are either black-and-white or illustrations. Perhaps this will be conveyed in my photographs.
This book is in fine condition. The spine is very slightly worn at the top and bottom. There are no markings or tears on any pages. Written by Joseph Miles Chamberlain and Thomas D.
