StellarDesign SDMC-35 GPS Adapter connects specific Nikon or Fuji digital cameras to GPS
receivers, allowing the current longitude, latitude, altitude,
and Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) to be recorded with
each photograph taken. It supports more GPS receivers than Nikon MC-35 does, even the entry-level Garmin Etrex.
The SDMC-35 GPS-Camera Digital Adapter supports the any GPS receiver that conforms to
version 2.01 or 3.01 of the National Marine Electronics Association
NMEA0183 protocol. The following GPS receivers have been tested:
• Garmin eTrex, Geko, 60, 76, Rino, GPS, GPSMAP series
• Magellan SporTrak series
A 9-pin D-sub data cable supplied by the
GPS manufacturer is required for connection to the SDMC-35.

Safety Precautions
To ensure proper operation, read this manual thoroughly
before using this product. After reading, be sure to keep it
where it will be read by all those who use the product.
Connecting a GPS Receiver
Connect the camera and GPS receiver as described below
- Turn off the camera and GPS receiver.
- Connect the data cable to the GPS receiver.
- Connect the SDMC-35 to the data cable via
the 9-pin D-sub connector.

- Aligning the mark on the connector with the mark on
the camera body, insert the 10-pin connector into the
camera’s 10-pin remote terminal and tighten the locking
nut.

- Turn the GPS receiver on.
- Set the receiver to NMEA mode (4800 baud).
- Turn the camera on.
- If the GPS receiver is properly connected, the camera
will display a blinking GPS icon in the top control panel as
the GPS receiver searches for a signal. The GPS icon will
stop blinking once a signal has been established and the
receiver is ready to supply the current position.

Note: Before disconnecting the SDMC-35, be sure to turn off
the camera and GPS receiver. Reverse the order of steps.
Using Remote Switch While Receiving GPS Data
The SDMC-35 remote terminal can be connected with standard 2.5mm stereo plug cable switch while using GPS data.
Precautions for Use
- Connect the SDMC-35 directly to the camera’s 10-pin remote
terminal using the 10-pin connector.
Do not use an Nikon MC-21 extension cord.
- Do not connect or disconnect the SDMC-35 while the camera
or GPS receiver are on. Failure to observe this precaution
could cause a malfunction.
- For trouble-free operation, make sure that the camera is
securely connected to the GPS receiver.
- Do not carry the camera by the SDMC-35 or subject the
camera or cord to physical shocks while the cord is connected.
Failure to observe this precaution could result in
the cord becoming disconnected.
- Replace the caps on the camera and SDMC-35 2.5mm jack remote
terminals when the terminals are not in use.
