Description:
Starting to clear out the left over inventory from our closed camera store
This is for a rare early Fed 1, #242938 body only. According to McKeown's, this is a type 1f, circa 1949 to 1953. That model started at #201800, and ran to #400000, so this would be a fairly early version. The Fed was the earliest successful Leica copy, and this is a copy of the Leica llD. Quite nice for it's age. Could use a bit of spit and polish. There's a minor serface scratch throgh the serial number, half a dozen bright marks on the back, below the viewfinder windows, and quite a few bright marks on the baseplate. I really can't find any fault with the leatherette. Displays quite well. The shutter needs some work. When fired, the curtains hang up, before they complete their travels. You can see the results in photo #6. Because of that, I did no further testing of the shutter. Viewfinder is bright, and clear. I moved the lens follower, and the rangefinder appeared to work fine, though I cannot attest for it's accuracy. Kind of strange to speak of high quality cameras coming out of the Ukraine, but if you squint your eyes, it's kinda hard to tell it from a real Leica. They have captured the look, and feel quite well.
